Product description

Play Games. Beat Cancer.

Free RPG Day celebrates the fun and excitement of roleplaying games. Visit us at both stores on Saturday, June 22nd for exclusive freebies, or better yet - join us at the table for a quick single-session game!

This year's Free RPG Day event will benefit the Canadian Cancer Society. All table fees will be donated to cancer research through Andrea's Adventurers, a local organization committed to fighting real cancer through made-up RPGs.

Special thanks to YVR DMs for co-producing this event! Additional support provided by Theatre of the Mind Flayer, Out on the Shelves, Adventure Dice, and Dicebound.

Excited to start the fundraising early?

11:30 - 1:30 pm - D&D: What Lies Beneath

Step into the mystical town of Greenhaven, where an ancient wizard's spell has gone horribly wrong! The wise but reclusive Altharion has accidentally unleashed a monstrous creature that now lurks in the shadowy caves beneath the town's old well. As darkness spreads and villagers vanish, it's up to you and your fellow heroes to uncover the mystery.

Note: Both "What Lies Beneath" sessions are the same.

11:30 - 1:30 pm - Beautiful Space Pirates in: The Galaxy's Most Dangerous Funeral

Play as a Beautiful Space Pirate who has just received terrible and wonderful news: you are to attend the funeral of the Great Space Pirate Balthazar Germaine, and he's written you into his will! You and your friends, who are all also in his will, rub shoulders with the galaxy's most devil-may-care scoundrels (who all also happen to be mentioned in the will) and prepare for his spectacular send-off.

11:30 - 1:30 pm - Eat the Reich: Off the Rails

Eat the Reich is a tabletop roleplaying game in which you, a vampire commando, are coffin-dropped into occupied Paris and must cut a bloody swathe through nazi forces.

The Schwerer Gustav is the biggest gun in the world - a 1000-ton railway-mounted artillery piece capable of launching 7-ton shells nearly 50 kilometers. In need of a disposable unit of commandos who can be hit by a train and survive, British High Command has given F.A.N.G agents (that's you) a very simple mission - board the train carrying the Schwerer Gustav, and destroy it at all costs.

Adults only, please!

2:00 - 4:00 pm - Adventure Skeletons

You are a skeleton, bored of being told to guard some boring old dungeon by a wizard. So you dress up in some kit you found on a corpse and set off to the human dungeon (or 'village' as they call it) for an adventure. Your adventuring goals: slay villains, get cool treasure, and perform legendary deeds.

DM: Debbie from Rain City Games

2:00 - 4:00 pm - Goblin Quest: A Quest for Goblins

Play five goblins each (in sequence, not parallel) and watch them meet hilarious ends while failing to achieve the most basic tasks. Goblin Quest is a tabletop roleplaying game about slapstick violence, fatal ineptitude, and the greatest adventure of your life.

4:30 - 6:30 pm - Intro to GMing Workshop with Out on the Shelves

Ready to take the plunge into DMing your own campaigns? Out on the Shelves is here to help! This session will cover the basics of planning sessions and running games, and is applicable to any roleplaying game system.

Out on the Shelves is a nonprofit community library based out of UBC that aims to foster a free, accessible, and safe space for LGBT2QIA+ people and their allies to discover and share stories and resources centering on LGBT2QIA+ experiences. They host biweekly drop-in RPGs on Fridays at the Rain City Games Vancouver store!

5:00 - 7:00 pm - D&D with Theatre of the Mind Flayer

Madness of the Litter: The party is summoned to the Plane of Heroes to assist a participant in the “The Ascension,” a once-per- century competition pitting the realm’s most promising litter of young sphinxes against one another to discern who among them should be elevated to the position of divine guardian. The party will be Level 8 Adventurers, tasked with protecting one of the young pups from their rivals and escorting them to the finish line... in front of an audience of warriors and gods!

Jump into an episode of Vancouver's very own Theatre of the Mind Flayer, a weekly comedy real play D&D podcast set in the homebrewed world of Jacale. They have two DMs for some reason, which can only mean twice the fun.

This is Dungeons & Dragons when you've rolled a critical hit on your Performance check - the show (and the Free RPG Day game!) is hosted and run by professional actors. But don't worry, they've rolled a critical miss on Intimidation - all are welcome here!

So sit back, relax, and enjoy your time at Theatre of the Mind Flayer!
