Missing Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces

Finishing a jigsaw puzzle and discovering that it has a missing piece is like stepping on a particularly sharp Lego with the softest part of your brain.

While it is a rare phenomenon, missing puzzle pieces can and do happen and manufacturing issues can often be the cause. Thankfully every jigsaw puzzle manufacturer guarantees their puzzles and can help right this injustice you are facing!

This page outlines the procedures for all the manufacturers we carry.

Before contacting the manufacturer

Before you contact the manufacturer, here are some steps we recommend taking:

  • Save the bag the pieces came in when you start a puzzle. If a piece is missing, go back and shake the bag out thoroughly.
  • Double-check the box, the floor, the chairs, under the rug etc.
  • Search those weird places too; missing pieces can turn up stuck to wool sweaters, fallen into plant pots, or hidden in the secret places your sofa doesn’t want you to know about.
  • Conduct an inquisition, interrogating any pets, roommates, or children. Puzzle pieces may disappear as strange snacks or in “funny” pranks.

Still no luck?

When you contact a puzzle manufacturer about a missing piece, they might ask you for specific information from your box, which will help them determine if an entire print run was problematic. Or they might ask you to send them a picture of something.

The process for each one is a little different, which is why it's easier for customers to contact manufacturers directly, rather than having us act as a go-between.
